Spall graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2015 with a degree in Finance and minor in Economics. A former varsity swimmer at UMass, Spall pursued Brazilian Jiu Jitsu during his junior and senior years and competed in multiple tournaments with the UMass Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team. After being diagnosed with Late Stage Lyme Disease, Spall turned his focus towards the medical field and helping others cope with chronic illness. In his free time, you can find him cruising around on his motorcycle, attempting to play guitar, or reading by the ocean.
When asked the question, “Why Team IMPACT?” Sam said:
To me, Team IMPACT is the perfect program. Not only does the team’s support allow these kids to see strength within themselves as they handle and overcome adversity, but it is also an experience that is carried by student-athletes for the rest of their lives. You cannot quantify the ripple effect that comes from being involved with this program, and the powerful perspectives student-athletes gain simply cannot be taught in a classroom.
