Inspired by watching the way a local minor league baseball team gave his late brother Chris (a young man born with significant medical and physical challenges that prevented him from participating in team sports) an identity and purpose, Jay Calnan sought to bring this incredible experience to more children sidelined by a life-altering diagnosis.
Calnan, and good friend and fellow Tufts alum, Dan Kraft, brought together a group of close friends and business associates with the intention of leveraging their personal and professional networks in order to harness the enduring power of team and the potential impact on children, their families, and college athletes.
Jay Calnan*, Kris Herman, Tim Kelly, Dan Kraft*, Mark Plansky, Robert Tishman, Scott Tully, and Dan Walsh launched Team IMPACT with one purpose: to improve the quality of life for children suffering from life-altering diagnoses. They focused their energy, finances, and individual skills on building the organization through hard work, networking, and unwavering passion for the mission.
Through its two-year therapeutic program, Team IMPACT has created relationships that have enhanced the lives of thousands of courageous children and touched the lives of tens of thousands of student athletes across the country. The team behind Team IMPACT is honored and inspired to continue to expand the long-standing tradition of athletes contributing to something far greater than themselves. The student athletes in the program extend their commitment to their team, to each other, to provide sick children in their local community a profound sense of belonging, by demonstrating their steadfast support for each and every member of the team through adversity both on and off the field.
Since its inception in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched over 2,000 children with more than 700 colleges and universities in 48 states, positively impacting more than 55,000 participating student athletes.
What began in the back offices of J. Calnan & Associates is now a national nonprofit based in Boston, MA, with regional offices across the United States.
