Duke Women’s Basketball Adds Cambria of Team Impact to 2024 Class

DURHAM – Duke women's basketball head coach Kara Lawson announced the signing of 14-year-old Cambria from Team Impact to the 2024 signing class. Cam signed her national letter of intent on Friday, Feb. 15, in the presence of her family and new teammates.

It's an exciting day for us here at Duke to add another player to our team, to our family, to the Sisterhood," said Lawson. "Certainly, at Duke, we look for players with high academic goals, high academic standards. Then for being a part of our team, we look for players that are committed to helping others be successful -- not just themselves, but that are committed to being a part of a team and wanting to work together to have great success. So, as we go across the country, we find a lot of people who are interested in what we have to offer at Duke, but we don't find a lot of people who fit all our criteria. And certainly, Cam is someone who fits perfectly, in terms of the type of person we're looking for, the type of athlete we're looking for. So, this is a big day, anytime we get to do a signing and someone commits to join our program – it's something that's really special. So, I want to thank Cam and her family for being here, and for also choosing Duke as the place she wants to be a part of."

Cam, a native of Cary, N.C., was diagnosed with panhypopituitarism and adrenal insufficiency. Prior to her official signing, Cam supported the women's basketball program by attending several home games with her family, in addition to a team meal.
When asked what made Cam such a great addition to the squad, freshmen forwards Delaney Thomas and Jordan Wood had this to say:

"We were able to hang out and spend some time with Cam over the summer and she made some Duke keychains for us," said Thomas. "So, someone who's really thoughtful to be on our team, someone who's really hardworking and someone who's willing to put the Sisterhood before themselves."

"Yeah, like Delaney said, we're definitely looking for someone that's dedicated to us on and off the court and someone who brings positive energy to everything they do in their life daily. And so, Cam, you're definitely that."

Cam and the Blue Devils were connected through Team IMPACT, a Boston-headquartered national nonprofit that pairs children facing serious and chronic illnesses with college athletic teams. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched over 2,800 children with more than 750 colleges and universities in all 50 states, positively impacting more than 70,000 participating student-athletes.
