When 13-year-old Joan joined the California State University – Fullerton baseball team through Team IMPACT in October 2023, he was looking for a place where he could belong. Living with muscular dystrophy, Joan knows the challenges of pushing through tough days, and thanks to his match with the Titans, he now has a team that celebrates him for exactly who he is.
Joan loves being with his teammates, whether it’s during the excitement of the season or in the off season when they still find time to hang out and connect. For Joan, this isn’t just about baseball. It’s about friendship, support, and knowing he’s part of a family.

One friendship has stood out in particular for Joan is his connection with Christian Brewster. Christian has been a consistent source of encouragement and inspiration, motivating Joan to stay strong and reminding him what it means to keep moving forward.
“I enjoy being around him because he motivates me to be stronger,” Joan shared in his video nominating Christian for Team IMPACT’s Teammate of the Year.
The friendship between Joan and Christian is what Team IMPACT is all about: mutual support, motivation, and belonging that lasts far beyond the field.
