When Lainey joined the Temple volleyball team in January of 2024, she didn’t just gain a team—she gained a family. From the very start, one teammate stood out for her warmth, commitment, and genuine care: Taylor Davenport.
For Lainey, who lives with cerebral palsy, social environments can sometimes feel overwhelming or uncertain. But with Taylor by her side, that changed. Their connection grew from simple meetups into something deeply personal and truly transformative. “Taylor deeply adores Lainey—not out of obligation, but out of true care and affection,” Lainey’s mom, Katy, shared. “She takes the time to really get to know Lainey and consistently goes the extra mile to make her feel seen, valued, and special.”
What started as a Team IMPACT match has grown into a deep and genuine friendship. From shared celebrations to everyday moments, Lainey and Taylor have created a connection that shows the power of inclusion, support, and showing up for one another.
And that feeling is mutual. Lainey looks up to Taylor with admiration, and it’s easy to see why. Whether it’s on the court, at a birthday BBQ, or just hanging out, Taylor has made Lainey feel like she belongs—not just as a guest, but as a teammate.
One favorite memory? The entire team—players, coaches, and families—came together to celebrate Lainey’s 9th birthday with a backyard pool party and BBQ. “The day was filled with love, laughter, and joy,” Katy said, “but the best part was seeing Lainey beam from ear to ear the entire time. Her joy was absolutely priceless.”
Since joining the team, Lainey’s growth has been undeniable. Her confidence has soared, and she now approaches new situations with courage and excitement. The safe, supportive environment the Temple team created—especially through Taylor’s leadership—has helped Lainey open up, strengthen her communication skills, and build lasting friendships. Most importantly, that confidence has stretched beyond Team IMPACT, showing up in other parts of Lainey’s life in unexpected ways.
“Our favorite thing about Lainey’s bond with Taylor is how genuine and unbreakable it is,” Katy reflected. “Taylor has made Lainey feel truly valued, seen, and special, and in return, Lainey has inspired Taylor in meaningful ways, teaching her life lessons through her strength and spirit.”
Their friendship is more than just a match—it’s a reflection of what true connection looks like. A space where both Lainey and Taylor bring out the best in each other.
Today, Lainey feels included and empowered. And thanks to Taylor Davenport and the entire Temple volleyball team, she knows she belongs.
