Seven-year-old Wesley loves watching the football with his dad, but his journey to becoming part of the Villanova football family has made that passion even more meaningful. In September 2021, Wesley faced a new challenge when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In June 2023, he joined the Villanova football team through Team IMPACT, and in the time since he’s found not only teammates but lifelong friends who are cheering him on every step of the way.

Though he can be shy at first, Wesley has opened up more with every experience, thanks in large part to his bond with student-athlete Chris Dobrydney.
Chris has become a big brother figure for Wesley, and their friendship has made a lasting impact both on and off the field. “Chris is an incredible guy. He is kind, thoughtful, inclusive, considerate, empathetic and FUN!” said Wesley’s mom, Christy.

Wesley rarely misses a chance to be with his team, attending practices and home games whenever he can. He proudly participates in the Wildcat Walkout, walking side by side with the players as they enter the field, and has even shared his love for the team in interviews with local news stations.
“We are so thankful to Team IMPACT and the entire Villanova football team for giving Wesley and our whole family this memorable experience,” Christy said. “Although the match is only for two years, we know we will have Chris in our lives for a long time to come.”

For Wesley, being part of the Villanova football team has meant belonging, confidence, and joy. For Chris and the Wildcats, it’s meant the gift of walking alongside a young boy whose courage inspires everyone around him. Together, they embody what the Team IMPACT experience is all about: friendship, inclusion, and the kind of bonds that last a lifetime.
