Why I Give: Seeing the IMPACT Every Single Day

As we close out another year, we find ourselves reflecting on the moments that define why Team IMPACT exists and why this work matters so deeply. Few people see that impact as clearly as our staff, who walk alongside families and teams every day. Rebecca Meyer Carr, MSW, Case Manager Team Lead, is one of those people.

“I love that every single day we see evidence of the good work we are doing with families and teams,” Rebecca said. That evidence doesn’t always come in big, headline-making moments. More often, it shows up quietly—in hospital rooms, on sidelines, at birthday and holiday parties, and in friendships that change lives.

Like many Team IMPACT staff members, Rebecca has countless stories and memories that remind her of her why. It is hard to Rebecca to pick just one favorite Team IMPACT moment or memory, but she has found the ones that stay with her most are the little moments: “the teammates that show up for infusions and play cards or build with Legos to help pass the time, the kiddos who surprise their team at an away game a few hours from home, the ones who start out so super shy and by the end of two years have burst out of their shells with their newfound confidence.”

When each workday brings new stories like these, it’s no wonder Rebecca can’t help but talk about her work beyond the office. “I share stories of what we do with my friends and family,” she said. “Everyone thinks my job is SO cool!” And it is—because it’s rooted in connection, belonging, and teamwork.

That commitment is echoed throughout our organization from staff members who see this work as much more than just a job. “We work with the best people,” Rebecca said. “Everyone believes in our mission and has made other concessions in order to pour their hearts and minds into the work. Without exception, everyone working at Team IMPACT is kind, generous with their time and knowledge, and will go out of their way to help one another. There is an expectation of respect and genuine appreciation for one another that makes Team IMPACT a great place to work.” That kindness, empathy, generosity, and respect for one another shown by the staff at Team IMPACT is what bleeds into everything that goes into each and every relationship for the kids and families in the program.

Rebecca is just one of many Team IMPACT staff members who not only give their time and heart to Team IMPACT but who also give back to the program through annual gifts. “I make an annual donation to Team IMPACT because I believe strongly in our mission and our need to continue doing this work and growing the organization to reach more kids and teams,” Rebecca shared.

As we look toward the year ahead, your end-of-year gift makes moments like these possible, not only for the children and families we serve but for the staff members who make this work possible. It ensures that more children facing serious illness and disability can find confidence, community, and joy through the power of team. It ensures that more student-athletes experience a program that will shape their lives long after their athletics careers come to an end. And it ensures staff members like Rebecca and everyone who works at Team IMPACT wake up every morning doing work that is so deeply tied to their hearts. It helps us grow, reach more families and teams, and continue the work that inspires even those closest to it to give back.

Join Rebecca and the entire Team IMPACT family in making a difference. Together, we can carry this mission forward—one child, one team, and one staff member at a time. Learn more at teamimpact.org/giftofteam.
